Discover how your vote shapes Australia’s democratic story.

The From Writs to Referendums exhibition, designed by E2 for the Australian Electoral Commission, invites visitors to explore Australia’s federal electoral system and the vital role it plays in sustaining democracy. Immersive, participatory, and accessible to all audiences, the exhibition builds confidence in the fairness and impartiality of the system while empowering visitors to recognise their own agency and role as voters.

The visitor journey captures the buzz of election day, framed by large-scale digital experiences that reveal how elections are organised, scrutinised, counted, and announced. Interactive elements, timelines, infographics, and object displays contextualise the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the history of Australian elections, while touch tables unpack complex processes such as preferential voting and proportional representation. At its centre, the exhibition transforms democratic engagement into direct action – allowing visitors to enrol, check their voter status, or register to work with the AEC.

Designed for audiences spanning first-time voters to seasoned participants and new citizens, From Writs to Referendums is both a celebration and a learning experience – one that deepens understanding, inspires participation, and reinforces the unique strengths of Australia’s democratic process.
