In August 2024, the Royal Australian Mint unveiled its newly refurbished and transformed spaces, the result of a four-year collaboration with E2. As Design Lead, E2 guided the project from initial concept design and feasibility through to final delivery, working closely with the Mint to reimagine the visitor journey and create memorable experience touchpoints.

The project set out to create a world-class visitor experience across the Mint’s foyer, retail, exhibition spaces, café, schools’ landing, orientation zone, and amenities. Building on the Mint’s rich stories of history, artistry, and science, E2 developed a three-part linear journey—History, Art, and People + Skills—that immerses visitors in the cultural, societal, and technical significance of coin making.

Through innovative exhibitions, interactive displays, and immersive experiences, the design reveals the craftsmanship, precision, and technology behind every coin, while also exploring Indigenous trade and language, environmental advances, and the Mint’s role in shaping Australia’s history. Complemented by upgraded amenities, a VIP retail space, and enhanced accessibility, the result is a cohesive, engaging, and memorable experience that positions the Royal Australian Mint as a unique national destination.

The iconic Royal Australian Mint reimagined: discover the artistry and stories behind every coin.
